Toronto Malayalee Samajam, the oldest Malayalee Samajam in North America was established in 1968. Samajam is a secular, non-political, non partisan, and not for profit organization. The Constitution of the Samajam focuses on the following objectives.

  • Promote social and cultural integration of Malayalees in Canada.
  • Foster and promote the south Indian art and culture in Canada.
  • Organize social activities and cultural programs designed to promote cultural interchange and the quality of life in Canada.
  • Help assist and render relief to all, in distress caused by draught, epidemics, earthquake, famine, flood, fire, riots, and any other calamities, natural or otherwise.
  • Promote advancement of education by providing scholarships, bursaries and prizes for scholastic achievement.
  • Provide housing for the old and needy.

Over the years the Samajam officials keenly safeguarded the above objectives. Today Samajam has over 400 Malayalee families as life members. Samajam organizes Picnics, Onam Celebrations, entertainment programs such as Star Nights, Musical Nights etc, each year and the participation and support from the Malayalees for all these initiatives are overwhelming. Since 2006, Samajam is organizing Keralolsavam, in which Malayalees of all age groups can compete in various performing arts. Keralolsavam has been a huge success so far and Samajam is committed to continue the Keralolsavam every year going forward.
